Jesse Winker said he "loves" the Mets fans. He now has the opportunity to build a strong and lasting relationship with those fans.

On Saturday night, the Mets agreed to a trade to acquire Jesse Winker from the Nationals, a source confirmed, allowing the Mets to add a much-needed left-handed outfielder to their lineup.

Due to Starling Marte's right knee injury, Winker will likely play the corner position for now and possibly share playing time with Marte in September and beyond.

The Mets have not yet confirmed the deal as it is pending medical evaluation. It is also unclear what the team will give Washington in return.

Winker, who signed a $2 million contract with the Nationals last offseason, is only with the team temporarily and will become a free agent in November.

The 30-year-old Winker, who has struggled with injuries over the past two years, is making a comeback. He has hit 11 home runs in over 100 games with a slash line of .253/.372/.417.

He has played mostly left field for the Nationals, but he also has good experience in right field. That will be beneficial to his new team

Three years later, when Winker was with the Mariners, he hit a game-tying three-run home run and again waved to the crowd as he crossed home plate.
